Become a Registered Member with our HealthPlan

By subscribing to our HealthPlan service, you become a Registered Member of Southern Independent Medical Practice. Our HealthPlan subscriptions can be paid for either monthly or annually, allowing you to spread the cost of your medical care with us and enjoy certain discounted fees. Monthly subscriptions are payable by direct debit. Annual subscriptions can be paid for by card, cheque, direct debit or BACs transfer. We do not accept American Express.

HealthPlan – our convenient membership service

We recommend our HealthPlan subscription for most individuals and families. HealthPlan covers the cost of much of your routine and preventive healthcare, and is available either as an annual subscription or a monthly direct debit. Patients can register wherever they live, though home visits will generally only be available within a 10-mile radius of Salisbury. By paying an affordable annual or monthly subscription, HealthPlan entitles you to unlimited use of the practice and includes the following:

    • A full annual health check. All patients are encouraged to have this done; by having regular health checks, any changes can be detected early and appropriate action taken. (This is also available as part of our general health screen for individuals not registered at the practice).
    • Any number of consultations with a doctor or the practice nurse.
    • Detailed travel advice (for business or leisure) – we are a designated Yellow Fever Centre and can provide a full range of travel vaccinations. You won’t even need to worry about remembering when you need your booster vaccinations, as we will remind you. We can also screen patients who frequently fly, especially to long-haul destinations, for thrombophilia (a condition that predisposes to the development of deep vein thrombosis).
    • Family planning advice.
    • Home visits within a 10-mile radius of Salisbury.
    • 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure assessment.
    • Bowel cancer screening with haemocult.
    • Coronary heart disease risk assessment.
    • Drug and alcohol screening.
    • Electrocardiogram (ECG).
    • Spirometry.

What does our annual health check include?

For adults:

      • A full physical examination; including a breast examination in women and PSA blood test in men over 45*
      • For women, a cervical smear test, as required
      • A detailed assessment of heart & lung function, looking particularly at cardiovascular risk. From the physical examination and a test of fasting cholesterol levels, we can provide a 10-year risk assessment of cardiovascular risk
      • A urine test for diabetes, kidney problems or hidden bleeding from the urinary tract, which can indicate cancer
      • A test to detect hidden bleeding from the bowel (as a screening test for bowel cancer) for patients over 40

For children:

      • A full physical examination
      • A height, weight and development assessment

The details

PSA levels

In men, the biochemistry screen measures the level of PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen). The level of PSA rises with the development of cancer of the prostate gland and this test, together with the physical examination, allows for the early detection of this condition.

Heart & lung function

With the increasing incidence of asthma, especially in children, and worries over environmental pollution, we are particularly concerned to assess lung function and have sophisticated equipment to do this. We also provide a detailed check of heart function, both in adults and children. Unrecognised heart problems, in adults and children, can lead to sudden and unexplained illness or even sudden death.

Cardiovascular risk assessment

Cardiovascular risk assessment is also available as an individual health screen for non-registered patients.
