The science says no - but my personal experience (in Australia) says that high dose B1 (WITH a B complex - do NOT take a high dose of B1 alone) for some weeks before travel to a sandfly exposure region is effective. Caveats - DO NOT do a sauna and then go out! However it works, it appears that having the skin not so washed must be useful - this from experience. NO NOT be a heavy consumer of alcohol. Appears that this reduces the effect of B1 and/or attracts biting bugs????

Any over-the-counter Vitamin B tablets will work. Start taking them in February, they'll take a month to work well. But don't stop until the end of September, or you'll be bitten again - like me, lesson learnt!

This DOES work! Before taking it, I was plagued with mosquito bites every summer but now I take one Vit B tablet a day and I get no more than 2 or 3 bites in the WHOLE summer. You must take it at the same time every day and be consistent EVERY day, but it is 100% effective, and I can't understand why scientists reject this cure.

In reply to <a href="https://independentdoctor.co.uk/news/vitamin-b-helps-prevent-insect-bites/#comment-379">Suellen</a>.

I'm in USA, it's amazing how much Internet inquiry results say this is a myth.
But I know what I experienced and I know what I saw.
I went biking cross country years ago.
The formula was this...
Take a certain dose daily of b1...
It had to build up in your system, it took 3 weeks to be effective.
Whoala.. sitting in my camp before sunset, I wore a coat that did not breath.
Mosquito's lined up on my coat looking at me... And I sat there also looking back at them.. the were numerous..
I had every attraction to them but they did not want to taste... No bites..
Very strange encounter.. I could have made pets of them and named them..
One note though is I noticed the vitamins gave my skin an undesirable odor which was not removed in the shower..
It worked well for that trip, and occasion, but, if I was with a romantic interest I would have suffered the bites,
Because frankly I considered the odor on my skin indeed would repel more than just mosquitoes!

I am 69/70 I had shingles 20 years ago and have been left with a terrible pain under arm and into breast area, it gets worse when I’m ever unwell. I’m really worried about having a vaccination in case I get worse or have a reaction. Should I be worried?
